PMAY gets Rs 54,500 crore budget for 2024–25; 10 lakh houses approved, subsidy benefits extended, and new apps launched.
The central government has announced significant progress in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), aiming to provide affordable housing to all. For the financial year 2024–25, a record budget of Rs 54,500 crore has been allocated. Additionally, 10 lakh pending houses are set to be approved in January 2025.

PMAY provides subsidies to beneficiaries for purchasing or constructing houses. It covers both urban and rural areas and has been extended for another five years until 2029.
To expand the scheme's reach, the government has introduced three major changes in eligibility criteria, ensuring more families can avail of the benefits.
The subsidy amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary's bank account.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the progress under PMAY Gramin between June and December 2024:
The introduction of the Awas Plus-2024 app in September 2024 and the Awas Sakhi app in October 2024 has streamlined the scheme's implementation, ensuring transparency and convenience.

The Ministry of Rural Development aims to eliminate poverty from villages by effectively implementing various schemes. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized setting monthly targets for better outcomes. Schemes like MNREGA, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, National Rural Livelihood Mission, and Disha are also under review to align with the government’s mission of a poverty-free India.
Eligible beneficiaries can apply for PMAY through the official portal or mobile apps. The scheme prioritizes transparency and efficiency, making it easier for people to access the benefits.
With the highest-ever budget and ambitious targets, PMAY is moving closer to its goal of providing housing for all and uplifting rural and urban communities alike.
