The central government is expanding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to benefit farmers. Under this scheme, eligible farmers will receive financial assistance to build permanent homes. So far, 73 lakh houses have been completed for farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

36 lakh houses have been built under PMAY-Gramin.
As of March 17, 2025, 36.18 lakh houses are completed.
The scheme was launched in 2016 with a national target of 2.95 crore rural houses.
It has been extended to 2028-29 with a goal of 2 crore additional houses.
In Uttar Pradesh, 36.85 lakh houses were planned, and most are now completed.
37 lakh houses have been completed under PMAY-Gramin.
So far, 37.15 lakh houses are ready in the state.
Madhya Pradesh was given a target of 49.89 lakh houses, and more than 37 lakh are completed.
60% of houses are reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
5% of houses are allocated for disabled beneficiaries.
35% of houses are for general category farmers.
Women applicants are given priority.
The government monitors construction through geo-tagged and time-stamped photos.
A Project Management Unit (PMU) and local officers oversee the process.
Funds are transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account via Awas Soft – PFMS.
Earlier, a house took 314 days to build, but now it takes 114 days.
The scheme has reduced open defecation and increased LPG usage.
It has also generated employment for laborers and shopkeepers.
Farmers in plains get ₹1.20 lakh to build a house.
Farmers in hilly or remote areas get ₹1.30 lakh.
Landless farmers are provided land and ₹1.20 lakh for housing.
The state government is surveying until March 31, 2025.

Farmers need an Aadhar number for registration.
