Severe Crop Damage in Madhya Pradesh

As of March 22, 2025, ripe crops in 12 districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Singrauli, Maihar, Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Jabalpur, Katni, Seoni, and Dindori, were heavily damaged by unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms. The government has started survey work to assess the losses and compensate the affected farmers.

Rs 117.10 Crore Compensation for Osian Farmers

In a major relief for farmers in the Osian assembly constituency of Rajasthan, around 55,000 farmers will receive financial aid. Minister of State for Disaster Management, Ota Ram Dewasi, announced in the Assembly on March 24, 2025, that the government has approved Rs 117.10 crore for agricultural input subsidy assistance. The compensation will be given to farmers who suffered at least 33% crop loss due to natural disasters over the last three years.

Disbursement Process Underway

Out of 73,341 applications received on the DMIS portal, 17,801 affected farmers have already received Rs 34.83 crore in assistance. The remaining 55,540 farmers are set to receive Rs 82.27 crore soon. The payments are being processed under the guidelines of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

Under the Madhya Pradesh State Disaster Management Policy (MPSDMP), the government has distributed Rs 643.92 crore for disaster relief in 2024-25. This includes:

33% or More Crop Damage Confirmed

Minister Dewasi stated that surveys confirmed that farmers in Osian had suffered at least 33% crop loss due to heavy rainfall, floods, and other natural disasters from 2021 to 2024. Compensation will be provided to affected farmers soon. Detailed reports have been placed in the Assembly, showing year-wise and gram panchayat-wise damage assessments.

Survey Underway for 2,194 Hectares of Crop Damage

According to the Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Department, unseasonal rains and hailstorms have affected 2,194 hectares of crops across 275 villages in 29 tehsils of 12 districts. Additionally, lightning strikes have resulted in the loss of five lives, 16 animals, and damage to two houses. Surveys are being conducted to provide quick relief to affected farmers.

Helpline for Insured Farmers

Farmers with crop insurance can report their losses by calling the Krishi Rakshak Helpline at 14447 to claim compensation.
