The central government has approved ₹1554.99 crore in aid for farmers affected by natural disasters during the Kharif season of 2024. This financial assistance will help farmers who suffered crop losses due to heavy rains, floods, and landslides across five states. The aid comes under the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) and reflects the government’s commitment to supporting disaster-affected communities.

Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Nagaland, and Tripura faced significant agricultural and infrastructure damage during the 2024 Kharif season. Crops were destroyed, homes collapsed, and roads and bridges were damaged due to heavy rainfall and flash floods. The High-Level Committee (HLC), led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, approved the release of the funds. This financial assistance is expected to speed up the repair of rural infrastructure in the affected regions.
The compensation amount has been divided among the five states as follows:
Andhra Pradesh: ₹608.08 crore
Tripura: ₹288.93 crore
Odisha: ₹255.24 crore
Telangana: ₹231.75 crore
Nagaland: ₹170.99 crore
This allocation will be adjusted against 50% of the initial balance in the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) of each state.

The central government has already released significant funds for disaster relief this financial year:
₹18,322.80 crore to 27 states from SDRF
₹4,808.30 crore to 18 states from NDRF
₹2208.55 crore to 14 states from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF)
₹719.72 crore to 8 states from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF)
This latest round of assistance is in addition to the earlier funds provided to the states.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared the news on social media platform ‘X,’ saying, "Modi Govt stands like a rock with the disaster-affected people. Today, MHA approved additional central assistance of ₹1554.99 crore to Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana, and Tripura under NDRF.”
This step by the central government is aimed at providing much-needed relief to farmers and rural communities as they recover from the devastation caused by natural disasters.
