Are you a farmer seeking methods to simplify your life? Are you interested in the most recent breakthroughs in agricultural technology? If so, this article is for you. We're looking into the potential of electric tractors and how they can change farming.

Will Indian farmers continue to rely on human labour to tend the land, or will technology relieve them of this burden? Many farmers are asking themselves this question. So, we're talking about the electric tractor in India and its advantages for future farming.

For many years, the classic diesel-powered tractor served as the farming industry's backbone. However, because of the growing popularity of electric tractors, the future of farming appears to be greener and more efficient. Electric tractors are powered by electricity rather than diesel and run on batteries, so they emit no pollutants or contribute to climate change.

Electric tractors are becoming more appealing to farmers and agricultural businesses as awareness of environmental challenges and the need for sustainable solutions grows.

Electric tractors: The beginning of a new era in agricultural technology

Electric tractors symbolize the beginning of a new era in agriculture technology. A farmer is always seeking methods to make farming easier or cheaper. And technology offers a solution to this problem. Wind, sun, garbage, and animal dung all provide electrical energy. These are futuristic approaches to decrease pollution and reliance on fossil fuels.

What is an electric tractor?

The electric tractor is a battery-powered tractor, making farming simple and cost-effective. They are quieter and produce more at a lower cost. Electric tractors are important in farming since they save fuel.

Electric tractors vs diesel tractors

Electric farm tractors provide a number of advantages over diesel-powered tractors. One advantage is that these tractors are more energy efficient than diesel tractors.

Traditional tractors are fueled by diesel or other fuel and feature hydraulic transmissions, but electric tractors are different. They are powered by electronic batteries that can be recharged by just plugging them into a power outlet.

Most diesel tractors require a complete engine rebuild after 6000 hours of operation, which can cost nearly as much as a new tractor. However, an electric tractor can last 5-10 years with only a battery change, which anyone can do.

Because electric tractors are driven by a motor, they have more torque than diesel tractors, making it easier to carry huge agricultural tools over the field.

Electric tractors have several advantages over diesel tractors, the most important of which is that they do not emit CO2 or other forms of air pollution. Furthermore, when more farmers choose electric tractors, the pollution produced by diesel tractors will be eliminated totally.

The Future of the Electric Tractor in the Indian Farming

Cost-Effective

The electric drive certainly reduces costs; the reduction of fossil fuel is the finest evidence of this. These tractors are virtually as expensive as traditional tractors.

Electric tractors offer significant cost reductions because excessive operating expenses are a big issue for farmers. Electric tractors are less expensive than diesel tractors. Overall, electric tractors save money.

Efficiency

Diesel engines are less efficient than electric engines. Consider this: a diesel engine only achieves about 45% efficiency when converting heat, and thermal energy into mechanical energy. That is a poor performance, no matter how you look at it. The electric motor, on the other hand, promises to be 90% efficient. Of course, you need to think about charging the batteries, which have a maximum efficiency rating of around 80%. Nonetheless, the reliability of an electric motor beats that of a diesel engine.

Environmentally friendly

These tractors are more environmentally friendly than traditional tractors. Nobody can claim that the electricity you use is supplied by the power company; you can charge your tractor using a solar system.

It makes no noise when in use. There are no additional costs for fuel or maintenance. These tractors are far more efficient than regular tractors.

Maintenance and Repair

When farmers have work to accomplish in the field, the first crucial thing they will do is fix their tractors.

Electric tractors have fewer moving parts, which means there are fewer things that can go wrong. As a result, repair and maintenance costs are reduced, and your tractor may operate for longer periods of time.

India's Electric Tractors

Autonxt

Auto NXT has developed an electric tractor to assist small-scale farmers. These startups created the world's first self-driving tractor. Kaustubh Dhonde, an electronics engineer, founded two firms in Mumbai. "Hulk" is the name of this tractor.

Autonxt has introduced over 3 tractor models from the 20 horsepower to 20 horsepower category. This tractor brand in India has launched mini tractors to heavy-duty tractor models for buyers.

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra are developing driverless tractors for large farmers in their Mahindra research valley. In 2020, HAV (Hybrid Agriculture Vehicle) will release the HAV 50 s1, a future-ready electric tractor.

Mahindra tractor's price in India begins from Rs 3.05 Lakh to Rs 12.90 Lakh. Mahindra has introduced over 49 tractor models from 15 horsepower to 75 horsepower category. This tractor brand in India has launched mini tractors to heavy-duty tractor models for buyers. Some popular Mahindra tractors are Mahindra 575 DI, Mahindra 575 DI XP Plus and Mahindra 475 DI.

Barrier to the Adoption of Electric Tractors

One of the major barriers to the increased adoption of electric tractors is the short battery life provided by these tractors.

Because the company is still in its early stages, the battery life provided by these electric tractors is expected to be a barrier to farmers adopting these tractors.

As technology progresses, electric tractor manufacturers are likely to give increased battery capacity.

Conclusion

These fundamentals define how an electric tractor will be valuable in future farming. And this concluded that electric tractors make farming future more promising and less expensive.
