Weeds are one of the biggest challenges in farming as they reduce crop growth and yield. Managing weeds requires time, effort, and money, increasing farming costs. To address this issue, modern techniques like mulching are being used. Mulching helps farmers control weeds effectively, leading to better crop production. Considering its benefits, the Bihar government is providing financial assistance to encourage farmers to adopt this technique.
The Bihar Government’s Horticulture Directorate, under the Agriculture Department, is offering a 50% subsidy on mulching. Farmers will receive half of the unit cost as financial aid, which will be directly transferred to their bank accounts through the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) system.

Increases Crop Yield: Mulching helps in better crop growth by preventing weed interference.
Saves Water: The technique supports drip irrigation, ensuring water reaches plant roots efficiently.
Reduces Costs: Farmers save money on weed removal, pesticides, and frequent irrigation.
Improves Soil Fertility: Mulching maintains soil moisture and prevents erosion.
Mulching involves covering the soil with a protective layer to maintain moisture, reduce weeds, and enhance fertility. In drip irrigation, perforated plastic pipes are placed between plant roots to supply water drop by drop. This method prevents soil hardening and improves water efficiency.
Mulching sheets come in various colors like black, transparent, milky, mirrored, blue, and red. Farmers should use high-quality plastic films for better results.

This initiative supports sustainable farming, ensuring better productivity and financial stability for farmers in the long run.
