Step-by-step Guide To Changing Tractor Engine Oil

Published Jan 02, 2024

To change your tractor’s engine oil, you’ll need an oil drain pan, a socket wrench set, an oil filter wrench, a new oil filter, and the right oil.

Park tractor on a level surface to facilitate proper drainage of the old oil. Make sure the parking brake is engaged and the engine is turned off to avoid getting burned.

Find out the oil drain plug on your tractor - usually, it is situated on the engine's underneath. For collecting the spent oil, place the oil drain pan underneath the plug.

Remove the oil fill cap to let air into the system, which facilitates a smoother oil drain.

Remove the oil drain plug carefully using the socket wrench of the proper size. Let all of the old oil settle in the pan.

Remove the old oil filter with an oil filter wrench. Lubricate the rubber gasket on top of the filter with a tiny bit of oil before replacing it. The new filter should be hand-tightened on.

Replace the oil drain plug on your tractor once the old oil has completely drained. Tighten it firmly to stop leaks.

Pour the specified volume of fresh oil through the oil fill cap of the engine using a funnel. The exact oil capacity can be listed in the manual.

Start your tractor briefly to help the new oil circulate, then wait for a few minutes before checking the oil level using the dipstick. Add oil gradually.

Dispose of the old oil and filters from your tractor following the local rules; never toss oil as regular trash or down drains.
